Animals of Aotearoa Tour

Discover the unique wildlife of Aotearoa (New Zealand) on the Animals of Aotearoa group tour at Te Nukuao Wellington Zoo! This tour offers an exciting opportunity to learn about some of this country's most loved animals.  

You will visit the Tuatara habitat first, to observe one of the oldest reptiles in the world. Next, spot the Kororā (Little Blue Penguin) as they swim around their aquatic habitat. Say hello to the Sheep and the Kunekune pig, before heading into in the Kea aviary, where you will see these clever alpine parrots up close.  Your experience will end in Te Piringa Iti, our off-display facility that houses some of Aotearoa’s smaller native reptiles, Moko Kākāriki (Wellington Green Geckos) and Whitaker’s Skinks.  

During this tour, you will learn about the natural behaviors of these animals and hear how our team of expert Zoo Keepers care for them. This is a fantastic chance to understand the important role these species play in Aotearoa’s ecosystem.

Animals of Aotearoa Tour Details:  

Age: 6 years old and up. Anyone aged 6 - 13 will need to be accompanied by a paying and participating adult on the tour

Time: Tuesday, Thursday, Sunday – 12pm-12:45pm 

Cost: $89.00 per person 

Participants: No minimum number – maximum number of 10 in a group.  

Duration: 45mins  

Booking cut off: In person: 11:30am, online: 11am. 

Accessibility: This encounter is Not Wheelchair accessible. 

Please note this tour covers several habitats spread across the lower part of the Zoo and contains gates and mild gradients.
