Giraffe Close Encounter Gift Card

You think that a Giraffe has a long neck? Wait until you see its tongue extending out of its mouth all the way to get a tasty treat! Getting up close to one of our Giraffes at Wellington Zoo at a Close Encounter means getting a real feel for just how huge these majestic animals are and what it takes to care for them. 

A Close Encounter at Wellington Zoo is more than just meeting an amazing animal close-up. You’re joined by a Zoo Keeper who works with the animals you are meeting. They will take you behind the scenes, showing you around the different areas of our Giraffe house so you can see how we care for our Giraffes and other animals in the Savannah habitat. You will be able to ask any questions you have about our Giraffes and their counterparts in the wild. They’ll also happily take a photo of you looking tiny right next to a Giraffe, so don’t forget your camera! 

You’ll learn how your Close Encounter helps Wellington Zoo in our work to save Giraffes in the wild.  10% of proceeds from all Close Encounters help us save animals in the wild through projects supported by the Wellington Zoo Conservation Fund.

You’ll never forget your Giraffe Close Encounter, and the feeling of being dwarfed by a towering Giraffe right next to you. 

Giraffe Close Encounter details

Age: 6 years old and up. Anyone under 14 will need to be accompanied by a paying and participating adult on the Close Encounter.  

Time: 3.30pm Fridays to Mondays. Participants must arrive at least 30 minutes ahead of their scheduled encounter time.

Cost: $99 per person including free Zoo entry.

Participants: Maximum of 4 people per encounter. Enclosed shoes must be worn.

Duration: 30 minutes
